Winter flower arrangements to brighten any home
Winter presents the
perfect time to brighten your home with a fresh flower arrangement. Not only does it take your mind away from the
cold and wet outdoors, it also serves as a gentle reminder that all is not grey
and black and that spring it not too far away.
But which winter
flowers belong in your winter arrangement? While there may be some do’s and
don’ts to flower arranging, the beauty – as the saying goes – lies in the eye
of the beholder.
Brightening the home
If you’re arranging
for your display piece at home, consider your décor and let your creativity
flow.
For a touch of colour,
consider mixing and matching some winter blooms, such as red chrysanthemums,
with some evergreens, in a contemporary white vase. Take advantage of all-year
flowers to complement your winter arrangement, like daffodils, daisies and
brightly-coloured orchids. Or display a range of colours of the same blossom, such
as red, white and peppermint carnations in a glass vase. Try red and pink roses
together with some seasonal greens in a silver bucket.
A romantic winter wedding
The calla lily is
often considered a symbol of bridal beauty and charm so it makes for the
perfect bridal bouquet. If you’re planning a winter wedding, perhaps arrange a
few calla lilies in a white vase on the table alongside some candles to add to
the romantic mood. Other winter wedding flowers include magnolia blossoms,
white poinsettias, Casablanca and stargazer lilies, gardenias, tulips and
snowball chrysanthemums.
Flowers as a gift
When you send flowers
as a gift, you can convey your message through your choice of bloom. The iris
signifies inspiration, gladioli’s symbolise strength of character, ranunculus
indicates radiance, and hyacinths sincerity. For a celebration, such as an
anniversary or birthday, a flower
arrangement that includes the Casablanca lily, which symbolizes celebration,
would be an ideal gift.
When sending flowers as a message, be careful that the
proper message is conveyed. Lavender, for example, is often associated with
distrust.
If you’re not able to deliver the flower arrangement
in person because of time or distance constraints, use the convenience of The
Cape Town Florist and buy your flowers online. They will be delivered on time
and you can rest assured that every floral bouquet is fresh on arrival.
